CEO Leadership Success: The 3 Rules from the Turnaround Masters at Sequoia Capital

This video is about Sequoia Capital and their 3 rules for success in leading a business.  They make leadership feel very simple.. but it works. They have 30 years of track record of successfully taking on and turning around businesses.

Their rules are:

  1. 30/30
  2. 80/20 &
  3. the golden rule: 90/10.

  1. Just LOVED what you shared in your video. THANK YOU. To day, was my 2nd day in the new company–and my first scrum meeting of 2 1/2 hours. During the meeting, I watched people talking–complaining that they couldn’t complete their tasks because something else had happened–or … After the meeting, the director asked for my opinion, and I said there was no structure/plan. What I will share with him later is what you shared–people need to have incentive to get the job done, and let him know about the rule of 30/30, 80/20, and 90/10. I Loved the concept and approach behind the other rules too. And I totally agree–when the plan fails, the blame is on the leader, not the person. Thanks again so much for sharing your knowledge with the world. BTW–the scenery/beach looked amazing. So looking forward to your next video.

    1. Thank you Mina 😉 My best post on all of these ideas about being intentionally productive is here: https://conorneill.com/2009/10/15/17-daily-personal-habits-for-a-fulfilling-life/

  2. 80-20 rule – shouldn’t you have said that everyone is asked to focus on the 20% of activities that add value?

    1. That is what I should have said 😉 Focus on the 20% important, stop the rest.
